Yevgeny Primakov, than Russian foreign minister, eats sea hedgehog 09 April 1997 in a Parisian restaurant. Former spy master and Middle East expert, Primakov, 68, finally emerged from shadows 11 September 1998, as deputies thrust Russia's reclusive former chief diplomat and former director of the KGB's foreign intelligence service into the limelight and approved him as the prime minister to rescue the country's crippled economy. Born in Kiev in October 1929, Primakov began his lengthy career in 1956 when he first put his foot on the apparatchik ladder to become deputy head of the state committee for radio and television, a propaganda department. He was recalled to government in January 1996 as a replacement for Andrei Kozyrev, the foreign minister.
