NEWARK, NJ -- May 25, 2007 -- 1967 ANNIVERSARY 7-- Members of the National Guard on Springfiled Avenue in Newark, N.J. clearing the street on July 14, 1967, after rioting took place. Their rifles had unsheathed bayonets fixed to the barrels. Summer 2007 marks the 40th anniversary of the "Summer of Love," a time when the hippie counterculture came into public awareness and the first baby boomers came of age, bringing with it the seeds of social and political change.
