The steamer San Dimitrio, dangerously listing, assisted by tugs her decks crowded with illegal refugees to Palestine, plus steel helmeted Royal Navy boarding party in her rigging is warped into a Haifa dock. The San Dimitrio, renamed the ??sLatrun??? by her passengers, 1279 to them on this 700 ton steamer, was intercepted and boarded in Palestine territorial waters by the Royal Navy the passengers were transferred to Cyprus aboard the British was contacted on Oct. 31/46 but could not be boarded by the Royal Navy until high seas had receded on Nov. 1/46 because of the fear of capsizing the overcrowded vessel. Two British mine sweeps to Haifa harbor. They stood by to rescue as many as possible should the tiny craft turn over. Some of the passengers had to be forcible taken from the ship when they refused to start the debarkation.
