A policeman examines what was left of picnic lunches in Chicago?s Southside on July 28, 1957 after a stone-throwing brawl erupted in a park among a group of more than 100 whites and Negroes. Police said the one-hour fight broke out in near 90-degree heat when a Negro club was holding a picnic and a large group of white men mounted a railroad embankment overlooking the picnic and started throwing stones. Nineteen persons were injured. (AP Photo)
