All shiny and new, these Oscars stand ready for the big Hollywood day -- the presentation of the 22nd annual Academy Awards on March 9, 1950. The construction of an Oscar takes about 10 different steps. First it's made in plaster. This provides a mold, into which the bronze is poured. Then it's scraped, field, buffed, plated, rouged, lacquered and fitted with a plastic base. (AP Photo)
