Men of the newly-arrived South African 6th armoured division marching past the saluting base. Empire day in Cairo saw a parade of British and Dominion troops through the streets. The salute was taken by general Sir Henry Maitland Wilson, C-in-C. Middle East Forces. Also present on the saluting base were commanders of the allied forces, and leading members of the diplomatic corps. Before the parade there was a church parade at Kasr el Nil barracks.
