Lillian Johns Cross, a doctor's wife, seen Feb. 21, 1933, is credited with preventing would-be assassin Giuseppe Zangara from shooting Pres. Franklin Roosevelt by grabbing Zangara's hand after the first of his five shots. Zangara's assassination attempt on the president took place in Miami, on Feb. 15. Mrs. Cross holds a letter from the president praising her courage and quick thinking in striking up Zangara's gun. (AP Photo)
