John Konrads, 15-year-old Latvian-born swimmer, shattered the 400-meter and 440-yard free style world records in New South Wales Championship at Sydney, Australia, on Jan. 15, 1958. Konrads was timed in 4 minutes, 25.9 seconds in bettering 400-meter mark held by Australia???s Murray Rose by 1.1 seconds and the 440-yard event by 1.2 seconds.
