AP Historical Hard Drive 2008
Yogi Berra is getting serious about his golf even though he shoots in the high 90s. The most valuable player in the American League is shown driving a golf ball right-handed and putting left-handed. Berra, who gets paid about $42,000 a year as a catcher and a left-handed slugger of baseballs for the New York Yankees, says he feels more comfortable putting left-handed. Yogi has no intention of becoming a Sammy Byrd, the ex- Yankee right fielder who became a golf pro on Feb. 29, 1956. (AP Photo)
