AP Historical Hard Drive 2008
The ever-changing history and development of New York City will be portrayed in this unusual building -- The Museum of the City of New York -- which was opened on Dec. 18, 1930. Its significance is singular in that it is the first of its kind in the United States, and will contain relics from the days when Peter Stuyvesant hobbled over the cobblestones of the city until the present time and -- even beyond. Objects of unique historical value will also depict the development of communication, architecture, and other phases of the metamorphosis of a city from Indian tent to skyscraper. The project was made possible by gifts from citizens. (AP Photo)
