Devereux Milburn, world famous polo player shown in this undated photo. Milburn died of a heart attack on the ninth tee at the Meadow Brook Golf Club, Westbury, New York on August 15, 1942. For 21 years the handicap ranking made him the greatest player in the world. He started in polo as a youth while living at Buffalo, New York. Milburn was credited with revolutionizing the backs play by joining in the hard riding rather than playing a purely defensive position. He was a major in the field artillery in World War I and served overseas for a year. (AP Photo)
