AP Historical Hard Drive 2008
The entrance to the Davidian center at Mount Carmel in Waco, Texas, Friday, June 23, 2000. Mount Carmel has a new chapel that was built on the site where the building burned in 1993. Eighty-two trees have been planted, one for each person that died during the seige. Markers bearing their names has been placed at the base of each tree. Plaintiffs' attorneys have said the FBI's on-scene commanders ordered the dismantling of the Davidians' complex with tanks less than five hours into the tear-gassingoperation, even though the Reno-approved plan called for the complex's systematic destruction 48 hours after it was determined that the tear-gassing plan had failed.
