Dr. Louis A. Giamboni and Elaine Renner operate the TRAC machine at the Rand Corp. in Santa Monica, Calif. TRAC is an electronic computer used in super-secret research at Rand, where some 800 persons spend most of the time just thinking about aerial warfare of the future and how the United States can excel in it. The staff is organized in five divisions -- Economic, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics and Social Science. Some 250 leading scientists are outside consultants. -- (July 22, 1958.)
