Portrait shows former german SS commander (Obersturmbannfuehrer) Fritz Knoechlein, who was in charge of an SS Division Totenkopf company that massacred 97 British Officers and men at Paradis - Pas de Calais, France in 1940. In 1948 Knoechlein was tried by a British Military Court in Hamburg and convicted for war crimes. He was sentenced to death and hanged. (AP Photo/Str/File)
