AP Historical Hard Drive 2003
This aerial view on July 20, 1931 shows the site of the projected Rockefeller Center, a commercial complex which will occupy a three block area from West 48th Street to West 51st Street, and between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. The building in the center, which stood alone for weeks within the demolition site, is the last one to make way for a new theater, the Radio City Music Hall, in the heart of New York City. The elevated subway line on Sixth Avenue is seen in the background. (AP Photo)
