Prof. Pierre Montet of Strasbourg University is shown in the tomb of Psusennes I as he bends over the outer of three sarcophagi in Egypt, March 9, 1940. Prof. Montet excavated the tomb at Tanis, in the desert of Nile Delta after ten years of research. The outer sarcophagus, made of black granite carved in the image of the dead pharoah lying on his back, fills half the tomb at 22 feet long, nine feet wide. (AP Photo)
