A Santa Cruz Island fox bred in captivity is held by Tom Coonan, wildlife biologist for the National Park Service, on Santa Cruz Island in the Channel Islands National Park, Thursday, March 4, 2004. Four subspecies of the Channel Islands fox were added to the federal endangered species list Thursday, because of predation from non-native golden eagles and a sickness spread by dogs, the Park Service announced. The number of foxes found only on the Channel Islands has dropped to about 1,650 from about 6,000 six years ago (AP Photo/Reed Saxon)
