Dr. Mary S. Calderone is shown in this May 13, 1969 photo. Calderone, who preached that children should be taught sex education practically from the cradle, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998. She was 94. Calderone was a founder in 1964 of the Sex Information and Education Center of the United States, whose goal was to foster ??responsible use of the sexual faculty.'' She was the daughter of master photographer Edward Steichen and the niece of poet Carl Sandburg. (AP Photo)
