AP Historical Hard Drive 1996
The Yacht Haven Marina in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, normally full of boats, stands nearly empty Sunday, July 7, 1996 as then Tropical Storm Bertha made its way through the Atlantic toward the Caribbean. Hurricane Bertha bore down on a string of Caribbean islands Monday, targeting St. Thomas and Puerto Rico and sending people scrambling for shelter from its 80 mph winds. Last year's Hurricane Marilyn destroyed or damaged more than half the homes on the island, many of which have still not been repaired, and left dozens of boats from the harbor on the streets of Charlotte Amalie.
