Maj. James C. Stewart of Hollywood, California was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross on May 3, 1944 for extraordinary achievement while serving as Deputy Leader of a Combat wing on a bombing mission to Brunswick, Germany, February 20, 1944. Maj. Stewart assumed command of the wing while over the target and in spite of enemy fighter opposition and heavy flak, he led his wing of Liberators (B-24) through an excellent bomb run and the wing scored hits on the target. Lt. Col. Ramsey D. Potts, of 1431 Carr Ave., Memphis, Tenn., Commanding Officer of the Liberator group, is shown pinning the DFC on Maj. Stewart.
