Gen. Augusto Pinochet is helped down the plane that brought him from Britain upon his arrival at an air force base at the Pudahuel airport in Santiago, Friday, March 3, 2000 returning to Chile a free man Friday, 16 months after he was detained in Britain on torture charges. Pinochet, the fierce anti-communist dictator who ruled Chile with an iron fist from 1973 to 1990, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006 from heart complications, the Santiago Military hospital reported.
