Many members of the A.T.S. who have a good knowledge of Mathematics and Physics have been trained to assist the men at gun emplacements. Though the men do the actual firing of the guns, a great deal of the preparatory work is done by the "Ack-Ack Girls". They work out the readings on range-finders and predictors, and identify enemy aircraft. The "Ack-Ack Girls" hard at work at a gun emplacement in the London area. The spotter, left, looks skyward with field glasses, while the other girl gets busy with her special-type telescope with which she identifies enemy planes in London, England, May 20, 1941. (AP Photo)
