Laura Pollan (L) and Julia Nunez, two of the five wives of Cuban political prisoners who founded the "Damas de Blanco" (Ladies in White) protest movement, listen live on the phone from Strasbourg, France, the prize giving ceremony of the Andrei Sakharov Prize for Freedom on Thought, the European Parliament's foremost human rights honor, 14 December 2005. The wives accused the Cuban government Tuesday of making them "hostages" after they were blocked from traveling to France to receive the award, named after the former Soviet Union dissident. They are one of three winners of this year's Sakharov Prize, the others being Nigerian human rights lawyer Hauwa Ibrahim and Reporters without Borders, an organization which supports journalists worldwide.
