Icarus. In the Greek legend Daedalus, Icarus's father, has built wings made of feathers and wax so they can escape from the island of Crete where they are imprisoned. Daedalus warns his son not too fly too close to the sun. Intoxicated by the experience of flight Icarus ignors his father and flies higher and higher. The sun melts the wax in his wings and he crashes into the sea and drowns. After an 18th century engraVIng by Hubert Quellinus which was copied from a relief in Amsterdam's Bankrupcy Chamber.
