Magic lantern slide circa 1880.Victorian/Edwardian.Social History. Slide set: The River Thames: from its head springs to the sea, lecture. View looking towards Hedsor, delights us. The path being beautifully overhung with trees, gives agreeable shelter from the sun. A part of Formosa Island is now seen on the left, and close beyond it is seen the ferry where we just crossed from the lock which is round to the left, while straight upthe river are the grounds of Hedsor-the seat of Lord Boston. Pedestrians now have to re-cross the river again here at seat of the Duke of Westminster. Cookham Rail?? way Station is not far from the village, and cheap return tickets from London are daily issued during the summer months.
