Hand Scroll, depicting the Dutch Settlement at Deshima, detail of a two storey house with a man playing a trumpet and a monkey sitting nearby. Below two men play a racquet game, servants push a large barrel across the yard, and two Japanese men sit talking in a small open room. In the centre is a protective wall with spikes across the top, and farm birds wander in the small yard of a guardhouse or gate house, from which a man in a red coat leans out the window.
