Color enhanced Transmission Electron Micrograph (TEM) section of two of the large Golgi bodies characteristic of euglenoids (in this case Euglena gracilis), one cut transversely (top) and one longitudinally (bottom); the transverse profile shows the discoid shape of each cisterna; the longitudinal profile shows the stack of 20 or so cisternae which make up the organelle; both profiles show vesicles budding from the edges of the cisternae to transport Golgi assembled materials to other cell sites for various metabolic activities.
