On 24 March 2019, the interior of the Mor Yuhanun Syriac Orthodox Church of Dereici was opened to visitors to the southeast province of Mardin, Turkey, which was once home to many Assyrian Arabs and Syriac Christian communities. Today, the region has been depopulated, but is still known as Tur Abdin and many tourists visit its Mesopotamian landscape to see the sandstone churches, monasteries and religious minorities that remain.
