The new genus, Wilsonosaura, is dedicated to Dr. Edward Osborne Wilson, a US entomologist and biologist, in recognition of his lifetime contributions to biodiversity research and conservation. - A group of biologists discovered a new species of lizard that lives in the central Andes of Peru, the National University of San Marcos reported on February 18, 2020. "Using molecular and morphological characters, they have described a new genus of lizard in the family Gymnophthalmidae of central Peru," a statement from the University said. This lizard belongs to the family Gymnophthalmidae and inhabits the Andean regions of Jun?n, Pasco and Huancavelica, according to a University press release.
