Part Danish interior designer Sarah Jane Nielsen had creative parents who were in the fashion design business and artistic genes run in the family so after studying fine art and design in Aberdeen she launched herself into the design world in London and internationally. Having been brought up in Scotland Sarah Jane had developed a love of earthy natural textures and colours which she loves for wall finishes, textiles and floors. Her own home, shared with her quantity surveyor husband and 2 young daughters, was bought as a not very exciting 3-bed bungalow in Cumbria in a very good location near the beautiful Lake Windermere, with a leafy garden and peaceful park surroundings. Naturally plans were drawn up to extend (now 250 sq mtr) and improve the house. A new entrance porch was built, the kitchen and seating area was greatly extended into the garden, poky living/dining spaces opened up and plenty of glazed doors to connect to the garden and to bring more light into the living spaces. Two stylish bathrooms were created. The pictures on the walls are by Sarah or her father, she loves tribal and Asian pieces, ceramics, fumed oak, old wood, wallpaper (Elitis, Stereo and Weitzner are favourites for terrific textured silk/linen wall coverings) Brian Yates and Pierre Frey.
