More than 1million people died as law and order broke down along the soon-to-be border / INCREDIBLE PHOTOS of Mahatma Gandhi, one of the influential figures of the 21st century, have been restored into glorious colour to mark the 70th anniversary of his untimely death. Pictures show Gandhi laughing along with crowds of joyous Indian civilians after India was granted independence from Britain in 1947, while another rare colourised photo shows the partition of India and a meeting between Gandhi and Louis Mountbatten, a British naval officer and statesman.
