The porcelain vessel was produced by John Bartlam, a British potter who took his trade across the Atlantic in the mid-18th century. But Bartlam's enterprise was interrupted by the American Revolution and he returned to the UK. Hardly any examples of his work exist today. In 2013 a tea bowl made by him sold at auction for L100,000. The matching blue and white pot could now sell for a similar sum when it sells at auction in Salisbury.
