Her Majesty had the back of the Charles de Temple jewel personally inscribed with the words 'To me Dearest sister, love Lilibet.' Lilibet is the affectionate name by which the Queen is known by close members of the Royal Family. It is believed that Margaret was presented with the 18ct white gold piece during a formal Royal occasion in about 1970. Measuring around three square inches, the brooch depicts Maasai tribal figures and is set with a single round cut sapphire, a round brilliant cut diamond and two pearls. The brooch found its way to the Suffolk auction house after Princess Margaret passed it on to a member of the public as thanks for work she had done.
