(1/19/2017) Small church on the outskirts of Gondar, Ethiopia. The city of Gondar was founded by the emperor Fasilidas (son of the Emperor Suspension) by the year 1635. It was the Emperor Fasilidas who raised the first castle and its successors the rest of the fortresses, churches and baths that make up the denominated Real enclosure. Tradition states that a buffalo took Emperor Fasilidas to a pond and that it was an old man who lived nearby who told the emperor that he should build the capital there. Fasilidas then filled the pond and had his palace built on it. (Photo by Sergi Reboredo) *** Please Use Credit from Credit Field ***
