Thanks to its rainy climate, its strong snowstorms, its mountainous geography and the presence of many glaciers, whose melt supplies torrents with water, Iceland can be considered as the country of waterfalls. Some are very famous, usually the biggest and most accessible (Gullfoss, Godafoss, Detifoss, Skogafoss). But there are many more amazing ones, in all areas of the country. Most of them are accessible even when highlands roads are closed (october to july). Some of them freeze totally. Not the biggest ones, because their streamflow is too strong, like Dettifoss, the most powerful in Europe, or Gullfoss, the golden waterfall, the most attractive for tourists. Among all these waterfalls, Godafoss (God's waterfall) is famous because former pagan inhabitants of Iceland threw away their idols, to convert to christianity. Skogafoss is famous for being the last stop of the famous six-day trek started from Landmannalaugar, called laugavegur. But even some no-name waterfalls can surprise tourists with their beauty. /JOLYOLIVIER_lewisjoly1537.056
