This tube is the very beginning of the Baku Tbilisi Ceyhan oil pipeline or BTC at the Sangachal terminal some 40 km from Baku. The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline is able to transport one million barrels of Caspian crude per day, meant for western markets. The strategic but controversial pipeline is run by oil multinational BP, together with a consortium of oil companies.
