Appenrodt's restaurant, which was owned by H. Apptenrodt on the Boulevard des Italiens in Paris, France. The restaurant was attacked by a French mob who thought the owner was a German national, during the early days of World War I. Anti-German sentiment (or Germanophobia) is defined as an opposition to or fear of Germany, its inhabitants, its culture and the German language. Anti-German feeling led to infrequent rioting, assaults on suspected Germans and the looting of stores owned by people with German-sounding names Bain News Service 1914.
