Alexander Karl Otto Westphal (1863-1941), German neurologist. Westphal was the son of the eminent German neurologist Karl Friedrich Otto Westphal (1833-1890). Like his father, he studied neurology, and also studied psychiatry. He specialized in studying the pupil of the eye, and the eye condition Westphal-Piltz syndrome is named after him. Photographed between 1890 and 1893. This photograph was obtained for a guide to the judges and commissioners who served at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, held in Chicago in 1893 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Columbus landing in America.
