Pair of old wooden studded doors used as bedhead Situated in the Gascony countryside south of Bordeaux, this 17th century manor house was bought as a family holiday home some seven years ago by Jane who is English and her South African husband Mark. The property is built around three sides of a courtyard. Unrestored barns on one side are now the indoor games area for the couple's two children and their friends whilst the two storey barn opposite has been converted and now contains two attic bedrooms plus kitchen and living rooms. The principle salons and two more bedrooms are in the grander central section which opens onto the veranda. Jane, who works in interior design on a consultant basis, initially bought much of the French furniture with guidance from Josephine Ryan and accompanied Josephine on buying trips to France. Jane has an unusual sense of style; she travels widely and confidently mixes finds from French antique fairs and brocantes with textiles and ethnic pieces from further afield. The house is available to rent - as a holiday home or as a yoga retreat.
