When light is incident from the air on an acrylic block it refracts (bends) toward the normal to the surface. When light exits the block through the second surface it refracts away from the normal to the surface. The angles of incidence and refraction are related through the Snell's law and depend on the refractive index of the block. In this photograph a red laser beam (635 nm) is used to demonstrate the phenomenon.
