'Geminoid-F' humanoid robot launch in Osaka, Japan - 12 Apr 2010
A robotics company has unveiled one of the most realistic robots to ever come out of Japan. The Geminoid F is an air servo-powered, remote-operated talking humanoid with eye, mouth, head, and shoulder mobility. Created by the Intelligent Robotics Laboratory at Osaka University, the new robot has been modeled on a woman in her twenties. It has been designed to mimic human behaviour and, as such, can copy the exact facial expressions and speech of its operator. A camera records the human subject and provides information regarding the expressions to the robot through electric signals. The end result is an almost simultaneous mimicry, whether that's a smile or a frown.
