Giant Japanese Spider Crab, biggest ever seen in the UK goes on display at the National Sealife centre in Birmingham, Britain - 11 Feb 2010
Claw-blimey! The biggest crab ever seen in Britain before is leaving visitors at his new home shell-shocked. The colossus crab has a body the size of a basketball and measures a staggering 10ft from claw to claw - big enough to straddle a car. Nicknamed 'Crabzilla', the Japanese Spider Crab will eventually grow to up to 15ft. The beast from the east was caught by fishermen in the Pacific Ocean and has now been imported to Britain where it has gone on display at the National Sea Life centre in Birmingham. The crab is only at the attraction until the end of March when it will then be transferred to a special tank in a sea life centre in Belgium.
