An Oxfordshire wildlife group has started a campaign to stop people feeding red kites in a bid to support the species. Wild about Wallingford, with support from the town council, launched the campaign to raise awareness about the birds of prey, which may become a "nuisance" if fed by people. The group said that the history of the birds may repeat itself if people feed them, after red kites were brought close to extinction in Tudor times for "causing a nuisance" but have seen a boom in numbers after they were reintroduced to the UK in 1990.
