Pictures show two chicks popping their heads up out of the hanging nest with mouths wide open ready to receive the insects and grubs from their parents in West Bengal, India. The parent birds are seen taking turns to place their beaks inside the mouths of their offspring to ensure they are properly fed. This sunbird has vibrant plumage with the male having a green metallic crown and shoulder patch, a dark brown body with purple rump, a purple throat, lemon-yellow underparts, and whitish flanks. The female is light greyish-brown on her back with a pale yellow chest. These birds are often seen hopping and hovering around flowers, picking up insects, and probing flowers for nectar. They are common residents of southern India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. These precious moments were snapped by Prasenjit Dutta a photojournalist from West Kolkata, India. “Seeing the unconditional love between the parent and the chicks really warmed my heart,” he told mediadrumworld.com. “It was also so much more precious because both the parents were at work and equally working to feed the little ones. “It was a challenge to capture these pictures because the birds are so small and they move so fast. “They came and fed their hungry chicks so fast that I had to anticipate the parents’ movements and prepare the camera before it reached the chicks.” ENDS.
