Human-sized AI robot 'companion' called Melody – who fits in suitcase – unveiled
An innovative tech company has just unveiled a new, human-sized AI ‘companion’ that fits in a suitcase.
Melody, as she is known, boasts several impressive features, including the ability to maintain eye contact and what have been described as realistic movements.
She also has body components that are replaceable, which might be handy depending on what you are planning to use her for.
The price of the robots varies from 0,000 (Ł8,090.80) for a robotic bust to 75,000 (Ł141,589) for a full-bodied robot.
A spokesperson for Realbotix confirmed to http://NeedToKnow.co.uk that a model like Melody would retail for around 50,000 (Ł122,027).
Unveiled at the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on 7 January, Melody is powered by a combination of open-source AI and advanced motor technology.
While most people would assume that a human-sized robot might be tricky to travel with, she also comes with the bonus of being easy to disassemble.
Realbotix, the creator company, said in a press release: “Melody is an open-source robot designed with upgraded features to improve functionality, adaptability, and user experience.
“By incorporating advanced motor technology, Melody enhances movement fluidity, modularity, and interaction, making her a versatile option for a variety of applications.”
Melody is said to be perfect for use in several roles, including education, research, healthcare, and simply entertainment.
Andrew Kiguel, CEO of Realbotix, said: “Melody was created with the intention of having robots that are easy to travel with and modify for various forms of personal interaction.
“Her modular design and advanced features provide a practical and accessible platform for diverse applications.
“In addition, the hardware is open-source, allowing our robots to interact with various AI platforms when required.”
Melody is one of a number of robots produced by Realbotix, which creates humanoid robots with integrated AI to allow for a truly lifelike experience.
A spokesperson for the company confirmed: “Melody does not have the functions of a sex doll.
“These robots are more so for engagement and entertainment and building human connection.
“They are AI agnostic so can run any AI program.
“With that - they can run any of the spicier programs and engage in adult conversations.”
