Mirumi clips onto bags, interacting with people by looking and nodding, capturing hearts wherever it goes. Like a playful koala or sloth, Mirumi clings to bag handles and acknowledges passersby with subtle head rotations and slight bows. Created by Tokyo-based robotics startup Yukai Engineering Inc., Mirumi debuted at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. Equipped with an inertial measurement unit, Mirumi detects movements such as taps or bag motions. Its internal distance sensor allows it to gauge its surroundings and respond by turning its head, giving it a lifelike and engaging presence. The furry robot exhibits various behavioral patterns, delighting CES visitors. It looks around when the bag moves, follows people or objects with its gaze, and even reacts shyly by hiding its face when suddenly petted or approached. If jiggled, it shakes its head side to side, as if playfully saying, "Please, don’t!" Mirumi’s googly, puppy-like eyes are irresistibly expressive, inviting people to interact. With long sloth-like arms designed for easy grip on bag straps, Yukai Engineering carefully balanced its head and body weight to accommodate its mechanical components while ensuring stability. The inspiration for Mirumi came from Yukai Engineering’s team, who envisioned a robotic "yokai" - a supernatural creature with the innocence of a human baby. Following its CES debut, Yukai Engineering plans to launch a crowdfunding campaign for Mirumi in mid-2025.
