Collecting food for the young ones INDIA FASCINATING images of an Oriental Dwarf kingfisher with a wriggly catch in its beak have been captured. Images show the colourful bird perched on a branch at Karnala Bird Sanctuary in Maharashtra with a variety of frogs, newts and insects caught in its mouth. The Dwarf Kingfisher is a brilliantly coloured, tiny forest kingfisher with a coral-red dagger bill. They are found along drying hill streams, and often away from water sources. Their flight is swift and direct, as the bird expertly manoeuvres through thick vegetation. They have a piercing high, thin call, often when in flight. These vivid images were snapped by Mainak Halder, a photographer from Kolkata, India. “I had to wait for more than an hour to capture the bird with different catches for its babies,” he told mediadrumworld.com. “Through these types of action shots, one can capture some unique unpredictable moments in the wild and I live for them. “It was an amazing opportunity to shoot one of the most incredible and most colourful birds of the Indian subcontinent with large sizes of different prey with a beautiful lush green background.” ENDS.
