Afternoon tea just got a sparkling upgrade - and a £58,000 price tag. Renowned designer Debbie Wingham has crafted the world’s most luxurious tea party, complete with over 300 diamonds, lavish bespoke creations, and jaw-dropping details. Commissioned by a wealthy British client for her daughter’s 21st birthday, the extravagant celebration redefines opulence.
The exclusive event unfolded aboard The Malex, a 90-foot Maiora 26DP yacht moored at Puerto Banús' glamorous Pier Zero. But this wasn’t just any tea party; it was an experience where every detail was infused with artistry and luxury.
Delicate finger sandwiches were served on a crocodile leather handbag-shaped platter, accented with solid gold and studded with hundreds of sparkling VVS1 diamonds. The pièce de résistance? A vintage Van Cleef & Arpels bracelet, repurposed as a handbag charm, adding a touch of timeless elegance.
Desserts stole the show with their playful nod to high fashion. Think edible perfume bottles, chocolate trays styled like jewellery organisers, and sugar syrup presented in "Eau de Sucre" designer-style perfume bottles. Every bite felt like a trip to a chic dressing room, blending whimsy with decadence.
Even the teapot and saucers carried the theme, adorned with pearl and diamond charms in a purse-inspired design. For the champagne? It was served in a stiletto-heel bottle holder featuring motifs from Van Cleef & Arpels—just the "Tipsy Toes" display alone was worth £6,000.
Wingham, known for her artistic flair, drew inspiration from her Andalusian garden, infusing the menu with fresh apple and lemon flavours to balance the extravagance.
The total cost for the bespoke affair included yacht rental, a decadent pastry spread, and personalised swag bags for ten guests. Each element was detachable and designed as a keepsake, ensuring this celebration left a lasting impression.
For those who want to indulge without the diamonds, Wingham and The Malex now offer a scaled-down version of the experience. Available Tuesday to Thursday for €89 per person, this toned-down tea still promises a feast for the eyes and palate—minus the hefty price tag.
