Unusual jellyfish perform a mesmerising display during a rare sighting in UK waters. The sea salp colony were seen coiling and uncoiling into spiral shapes as they floated off the coast of West Cornwall.
These amazing pictures were taken by David Hamilton off Mount's Bay while he was snorkelling. The 54 year old said: "It’s so uncommon for our British seas. SEE OUR COPY FOR DETAILS.

*** Local Caption *** These marine images were taken during early September off Mounts Bay in West Cornwall. We have seen many unusual marine life this summer. Species you would normally see in much warmer waters.
The spiralling Sea Salp (Pegea confoederata) was coiling & uncoiling during my encounter.
I captured this image on a Sony AVCHD camera. I was lucky to see this on my Sunday morning snorkelling session on an incoming tide off West Cornwall. I was photographing this Salp for about 10 minutes before I moved on.
It's not my best photograph but surely one of the most uncommon photographs. One image as made the Cornwall Wildlife Trust photograph finals. I do follow many marine photographers on social media sites, & I've not seen anyone capture the spiralling.
I'm not a photographer but I do enjoy trying to capture our amazing marine life. We are very fortunate to have such a diverse marine life off Cornwalls coast. It's so beautiful, very diverse & very precious. All I want to do, is highlight this fact. It's an environment that needs to be respected & preserved.

It’s so uncommon for our British Seas. Many questions will follow- why are they in our Cornish seas etc? Will these become a more common summer species etc .
