Tesla CEO Elon Musk unveiled two of the company’s upcoming autonomous ‘Robotaxi’ or ‘Cybercab’ and the Robovan, at a futuristic event on the Warner Bros. Burbank lot on Thursday night (10October2024).
Musk arrived at the ‘We, Robot’ event in Robotaxi, which is expected to cost under $30,000 (£22,980), and is fully autonomous, lacking a steering wheel. Musk said he believes production will begin "in 2026".
Musk outlined a future with fully autonomous vehicles, where parking lots can be replaced by parks, and passengers can relax, watch films while travelling - and even manage fleets of autonomous vehicles.
In addition to the Cybercab, Musk announced the Robovan, an autonomous van capable of carrying up to 20 passengers or goods. However, no details were given on pricing or production timelines.
The event also featured Tesla’s humanoid robot, Optimus. Several robots were introduced, serving drinks and dancing to Haddaway’s What Is Love.
